Chili Cheese Hot Dogs

Ingredients
  

Homemade Hot Dog Chili

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 3 onions, for chili
  • 4 tablespoons mustard
  • 3 teaspoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • salt, to taste
  • ยผ cup water, as needed

Hot Dogs

  • 12 hot dogs
  • 12 hot dog buns
  • 1โ…” cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 large onion, for topping

Instructions

Hot Dog Chili

  • Finely dice 3 onions.
  • Brown 1 pound ground beef, breaking into small pieces while cooking. Adding about ยผ cup water while cooking will help it to break up.
  • Drain meat.
  • Place cooked meat into a medium saucepan and diced onions, 4 tablespoons mustard, 3 teaspoons sugar, 2 teaspoons chili powder, 1 cup ketchup, and salt to taste. Stir until mixture is consistent. Simmer over low heat for 1 hour.
  • If you need to thin the sauce you may use small amounts of water as the mixture cooks.

Hot Dogs

  • Chop 1 large onion.
  • Grill or boil 12 hot dogs according to your preference until cooked through.
  • Serve in 12 hot dog buns with chili, 1โ…” cup shredded cheddar cheese, chopped onions, and other toppings as desired.
