What you need to make Philly Cheesesteak Sliders
- Shaved steak. Look in the refrigerated beef section for packages of fresh shaved steak. Avoid frozen sliced steaks if you can. Leftover steak or roast beef also works.
- Provolone cheese slices. I love the flavor and melt. If you prefer American, use white or yellow American. Some folks swear by Cheez Whiz, so use what you love.
- Yellow onion and green bell pepper.
- Onion soup mix. Generic is fine.
- Garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
- Worcestershire sauce. Lea & Perrins is my favorite, and a bottle lasts a good long while so the extra cost is worth it.
- Butter. Real butter for the best consistency and flavor.
- Sweet Hawaiian rolls. Any slider buns work. King's now has a jalapeño version that would be great here.
Not pictured: cooking oil, optional parsley garnish

How to make Philly Cheesesteak Sliders
Slice the onion and pepper and sauté in cooking oil (1 & 2). Stir in the shaved steak, Worcestershire, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Break it apart as it cooks so it does not clump (3). Cook until no longer pink, then remove from heat (4).
Keeping the rolls attached as a sheet, slice them in half horizontally. Place the bottoms on a parchment lined baking sheet. Spread with the meat, sautéed onions, and peppers evenly over the bottom half of the rolls (5). Arrange slices of provolone cheese on top of the meat (6) and top with the roll lids. Melt butter and stir in onion soup mix (7). Brush or spoon the mixture over the tops of the rolls (8).
Bake at 400ºF for 17-20 minutes until tops are starting to brown and cheese is melted (9 & 10). Garnish with fresh parsley you like.
Cut to separate the sliders, and serve warm.
✨ Pro Tip for Easy Cleanup ✨
Line the sheet pan with parchment before assembling. When the sliders are gone, toss the parchment and you are basically done.
Make it your own
- Add a little heat and sweet with pickled cherry peppers or pepper relish.
- Try different rolls, like King's jalapeño slider rolls, or your favorite slider buns.
- Use what you have. Leftover steak or roast beef and any color bell pepper work.
- Swap the cheese for Swiss, Pepper Jack, or American if that is your thing.
- Mushroom fan? Sauté a cup of sliced mushrooms with the peppers and onions.
Prep ahead
Short term, a few hours: Assemble through brushing the butter mixture on top. Cover with foil and refrigerate. Add a few extra minutes of bake time.
Longer term, more than a few hours:

Fridge: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
Freezer: Freeze in an airtight container for up to 4 months. Thaw in the refrigerator, then reheat wrapped in foil.
