Look for squash that are mostly green and dull in color. Orange coloring does not mean ripe.
CHOOSE YOUR ACORN SQUASH
Cut the squash in half and clean by scooping out the seeds and pulp with a spoon. Discard the pulp and seeds.
CLEAN THE SQUASH
The microwave makes quick work of cooking acorn squash. Place squash halves face down in a baking pan with water. Steam for 5-6 minutes or until tender.
STEAM THE SQUASH
Top with butter, brown sugar, cinnamon and/or nutmeg, and heat again until butter is bubbling.
